A ban for bags, sleeves and other food packaging with intentionally added PFAS is coming to Washington state in two years after the state Department of Ecology published alternatives on Thursday.
The report outlines safer substitutes to replace in five packaging types per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, the chemical class known as “forever chemicals.”
- “This report starts a two-year countdown to when PFAS will be banned in these five types of products,” said Katrina Lassiter, manager of the state’s Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction Program.
