VW Asks SCOTUS to Take Up, Then End, Counties’ Diesel-Cheat Suit

Counties in Florida and Utah lack the authority, and shouldn’t be allowed, to sue Volkswagen Group of America Inc. over software updates that allegedly helped conceal diesel emissions, VW told the U.S. Supreme Court in a high-stakes petition for review.

The Environmental Protection Agency alone may regulate vehicle emissions standards in the U.S., VW said. VW is petitioning the court to take the case for review, along with its affiliates Audi of America LLC and Porsche Cars North America Inc.

Part maker Robert Bosch LLC is also on the petition, which the court docketed Tuesday.
