Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) is calling for a significant expansion of renewable energy sources and cuts in carbon emissions to help stem the impacts of climate change.
Northam issued an executive order Sept. 17 that calls for 30% of Virginia’s power to be generated by renewable energy resources by 2030. The governor also wants the state to only use carbon-free power sources by 2050.
“We know the importance of a true shift to reliance on renewable energy sources in reducing our carbon footprint, growing our economy, and creating the clean energy jobs of the future,” Northam said.
