Vermont Clean Energy Mandate Becomes Law After Veto Override (1)

Vermont lawmakers on Monday drove through a law mandating that the state’s utilities procure 100% clean energy by 2035.

Gov. Phil Scott (R), who had previously vetoed the legislation, said in a press release that the law would be too expensive for ratepayers.

“Today is a sad day for Vermonters who simply cannot afford further tax burdens and cost increases,” he said. “Many will talk about these votes as a major loss for me, but it’s really a major loss for Vermont taxpayers, workers and families.”
