The US is soliciting applications from nuclear companies seeking authorization from the Energy Department to develop advanced reactor technologies outside of the national laboratories where such research typically occurs.
- Program is aimed at expediting testing of nuclear technology, according to DOE statement Wednesday
- US companies must apply to program by June 27. Energy Department will consider designs with “reasonable chance” to be operational by July 2026
