US Takes Step to Encourage Domestic Nuclear Fuel Production

The US is soliciting applications from companies to build and operate facilities to supply nuclear fuel, a move aimed at accelerating the deployment of reactors.

The Energy Department introduced a pilot program for companies to use the department’s authorization process to develop nuclear-fuel production lines, according to a statement Wednesday. Applications are due by Aug. 15, and participants will be responsible for all costs related to construction, operation and decommissioning.
