US Sues Emissions Control ‘Defeat Device’ Maker Out of Canada

Diesel Spec Inc., a Canadian diesel engine tuning company, sold aftermarket products that bypassed vehicle emissions controls, the US Environmental Protection Agency alleged in complaint filed in Ohio federal court.

Diesel Spec sold and installed thousands of “Defeat Devices” on both motor vehicles and nonroad engines throughout a network of more than 400 distributors across North America, the complaint, filed March 17 in the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio at Toledo, alleged.

The suit seeks to permanently enjoin the La Prairie, Quebec, firm from selling the devices and pay penalties for each of the violations. ...
