US, Southern Company Strike Deal for Clean Power in South (1)

The Biden administration signed an agreement with Southern Company on Tuesday to deliver carbon pollution-free electricity to federal facilities in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.

It’s the federal government’s second announcement related to clean energy procurement in two days and fourth overall.

Even more will be needed to reach President Joe Biden’s 2021 goal for the government to source 100% carbon pollution-free electricity by 2030, and Robin Carnahan, head of the General Services Administration, said at a signing ceremony that she wants her agency to reach more such agreements with utilities.
