The Biden administration’s bid to make agencies think about the global impacts of their proposed rules could spur other nations to take climate change more seriously, a top White House official said Tuesday.
“If we take a negative constant like climate change seriously, it’s more likely that they’ll take it seriously,” said Richard Revesz, head of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. “It’s a reaction function. And if they take it seriously, that confers benefits on the US, because the US is also hurt by greenhouse gas emissions in other countries.”
