US Republican Leaders Slam Energy Watchdog’s Demand Forecast (1)

US Republican leaders accused the International Energy Agency, the west’s energy watchdog, of letting climate change goals distort its demand forecasts.

A letter signed by John Barrasso, the top Republican on the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, chair of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, said the IEA’s commitment to “net zero emission energy systems” has skewed projections of long-term energy demand.

The agency’s modeling “no longer provides policymakers with balanced assessments of energy and climate proposals,” the lawmakers told IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol in a letter dated March 20. ...
