The US Energy Department has rejected Holtec International’s request for funding to reopen a nuclear power plant in Michigan that was shut down in May.
Holtec learned Friday that it’s application for federal assistance had been denied, according to spokesman Patrick O’Brien. The company will continue with plans to decommission the Palisades plant acquired from Entergy Corp. shortly after it was shut down. He declined to say why the application was rejected.
