The top US energy regulator joined the country’s power grid reliability official in calling for Congress to establish a reliability organization to oversee the natural gas system.
“It’s abundantly clear that we must make major improvements to the cold-weather reliability of both the natural gas and electricity production and grid systems,” Willie Phillips, chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, said Thursday.
“I have said repeatedly: Someone—it doesn’t have to be FERC—must have authority to establish and enforce natural gas reliability standards,” Phillips said, adding later that he has made it clear to lawmakers that he wants a gas reliability organization. ...
