The Biden administration approved the SunZia Southwest Transmission Project, two proposed power lines spanning 520 miles aiming to transport up to 4,500 megawatts of renewable energy from New Mexico to markets in Arizona and California.
The Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management announced Thursday a record of decision for the project. The line’s developer, San Francisco-based Pattern Energy, has said the project enables the largest renewable energy project in US history. Combined with a proposed wind farm in eastern New Mexico, the project investment is $8 billion.
