US Ethanol Output Nears Three-Year Low as Cold Grips Corn Belt

Cold blasts across America’s Corn Belt sent ethanol production down 22% last week to the lowest level in almost three years.

US output of the corn-based biofuel blended into the nation’s gasoline supply missed all Bloomberg survey estimates while stockpiles rose to the highest since March after climbing to the highest seasonal level on record the prior week.

The production drop comes as a bitter cold snap disrupted natural gas supplies needed to run biofuel factories.
