Underground Storage Tank Rules Revised With Costs Projected to Be Lower, EPA Says

The Environmental Protection Agency completed revisions to the rules governing more than half a million underground storage tanks in a move the agency said will protect groundwater and prevent releases of hazardous compounds.

The final rule, released June 19 and the first update to underground storage tank rules since 1988, will cost owners and operators of tanks at sites such as gas stations, convenience stores and airports an estimated $715 per year per facility, according to the EPA.
