GENEVA—A committee of scientific experts under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) has advanced work on a possible worldwide ban on the production and trade of the insecticide endosulfan, despite objections from India.
The POPS Review Committee (POPRC) agreed at the end of its Oct. 11-15 meeting to recommend listing endosulfan under Annex A of the Stockholm Convention and subjecting the chemical to a ban on its production, import, and export. However, there would be exceptions to allow some user countries to phase in alternative pest control methods.
