U.S. Sues California State Water Board Over New Melones Dam

The Justice and Interior departments filed civil actions in federal and state court against the California State Water Board for failing to comply with the California Environment Quality Act, the Justice Department said in a March 28 release.

The lawsuit relates to a state water plan, known as the Bay Delta Plan, approved by California in December.

“The environmental analysis by the California State Water Resources Control Board hid the true impacts of their plan and could put substantial operational constraints” on Interior’s “ability to effectively operate the New Melones Dam,” Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Bossert Clark said.
