The Biden administration on Tuesday imposed new cybersecurity mandates on oil, fuel and natural gas pipelines meant to bolster the critical infrastructure against the kind of computer-based attacks that paralyzed a major U.S. East Coast conduit for gasoline in April.
Under the new requirements, levied by the Transportation Security Administration, operators of specifically designated “critical pipelines” must now implement a suite of steps to defend against ransomware attacks and other known cybersecurity threats, the agency said in a news release.
