Trump’s Pick for EPA Top Lawyer Scrutinized Over Grant Clawbacks

Senate Democrats used a Wednesday confirmation hearing to pressure the Trump administration on its bid to claw back congressionally-approved grants.

But Sean Donahue, the White House’s pick to become the EPA’s top lawyer, was generally able to parry the lawmakers’ questioning, often by claiming he wasn’t aware of or hadn’t taken part in decisions to take the funding back.

Lee Zeldin, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, has aggressively sought to recover funding from numerous organizations who received grants under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF), a $27 billion pot of money launched by the 2022 climate law.
