Trump to End Protection for Flower on Virginia’s Endangered List

The Trump administration said Monday it plans to end federal protections for a rare flower listed as endangered by the state of Virginia.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to delist the rare Virginia sneezeweed, which the agency currently considers threatened, from protections under the Endangered Species Act, according to a Federal Register public inspection notice. A 60-day public comment period on the delisting will end Oct. 6.

The state of Virginia deems the rare plant moderately vulnerable to extinction, and it’s listed there as endangered.
