Trump-Era Utah Oil and Gas Leases Unlawful, Lawsuit Says (1)

Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance is challenging the Interior Department’s decisions to offer 145 oil and gas leases covering more than 200,000 acres of public lands in Utah.

The group told the US District Court for the District of Utah on Nov. 3 that the decisions, approved during the Trump administration, lacked proper environmental analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act and Administrative Procedure Act.

Specifically, the Bureau of Land Management failed to analyze the direct, indirect, or cumulative impacts of its leasing decisions—including greenhouse gas emissions—or reasonable alternatives required by NEPA.
