Trump Clears Wyoming Coal Mine Expansion After Expedited Review

The Trump administration approved the expansion of a Wyoming coal mine by using emergency authority to expedite the project’s environmental review to less than a month.

The move Tuesday by the Interior Department allows the closely held Black Butte Coal Co. to recover an additional 9.2 million tons of coal from a mine on federal land in Sweetwater County, Wyoming.

The Black Butte mine supplies the Jim Bridger Power Plant, majority operated by Berkshire Hathaway Inc. subsidiary PacifiCorp, and has been in operation since 1977. The Interior Department said the expansion will allow the mine to run through at ...
