Trump Agency Redefines ‘Ski Area,’ Aids Climate-Hit Resorts (1)

The Trump administration is redefining a “ski area” in national forests to allow resorts to adapt to warmer winters as the climate changes, according to a Federal Register public inspection notice posted Tuesday.

The US Forest Service this week will issue a final rule redefining “ski area” without public comment, allowing ski resorts in national forests to operate all year without a primary focus on winter sports.

About 116 ski resorts have permits to operate in national forests nationwide, representing about 60% of all skiable terrain in the US, according to the Forest Service. Those include Aspen, Steamboat, and Vail ...
