Triad Mining to Pay More Than $810,000 To Settle Alleged Clean Water Act Violations

Triad Mining Inc. will pay an $810,171 civil penalty and restore 34,906 linear feet of streams in Indiana to resolve alleged violations of the Clean Water Act, according to a proposed settlement filed Jan. 9 (United States v. Triad Mining Inc.).

Under a proposed consent decree filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, Triad also will enhance 4,330 linear feet of stream bed and create 66 acres of forested buffer areas to protect the restored streams. The court has to approve the consent decree before it becomes final.
