Trade Group Urges EPA to Complete Municipal Solid Waste Review

The Waste-to-Energy Association is asking a federal court to compel the Environmental Protection Agency to complete a residual risk review for large municipal solid waste combustors that it says is long overdue.

The association, a trade organization representing owners and operators of waste-to-energy facilities, told the US District Court for the District of Columbia on Monday that the Clean Air Act mandates the review.

Waste-to-energy plants burn garbage to produce steam in boilers, which is then used to power electric generator turbines, according to the Energy Information Administration.
