Texas, New Mexico Water Fight Gets Supreme Court Date

The Supreme Court will wade into a decadeslong water fight in April, hearing arguments from Texas and New Mexico over how to share water from the Pecos River.

The justices will hear the case April 21, according to a schedule published Friday. At issue is the most recent skirmish in the long-running litigation over the river, which flows more than 900 miles from northern New Mexico to western Texas, where it joins the Rio Grande.

The states reached a water compact in 1948 that requires upstream New Mexico to reduce its water use at times to ensure Texas has enough. ...
