An environmental coalition petitioned the EPA Tuesday to require chemical manufacturers to test the health and ecological effects of a chemical used to make laundry pods and remove it from a preferential chemicals list the agency maintains.
Information is needed to determine polyvinyl alcohol’s (PVA) effects on aquatic life and people, wrote several advocacy groups in a petition to the Environmental Protection Agency spearheaded by Blueland, which sells soaps, detergents and other products made without plastic or in refillable bottles, and the Plastic Pollution Coalition, an alliance of multiple groups trying to reduce the use of plastic.
