Ten States Move to Defend Biden EPA’s Lead Pipe Removal Rule

California, Washington, D.C., and nine other states filed a motion Monday to intervene as defendants in a lawsuit against the Biden administration’s Lead and Copper Rule Improvements regulation.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s rule, which was finalized last year, requires all lead service lines to be replaced over 10 years beginning in 2027.

The second Trump administration is not expected to defend the rule, which rolled back the first Trump administration’s lead pipe replacement regulation and sped up the timeline for required pipe removal.
