TAIPEI, Taiwan—The Taiwanese government Aug. 9 appealed three Taipei High Administrative Court rulings that halted expansion of the Central Taiwan Science Park because of incomplete environmental impact assessments.
The appeals were jointly filed by the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (TEPA), the National Science Council, and the Central Taiwan Science Park Administration.
National Science Council Deputy Minister Jing-Yang Jou told a news conference Aug. 9 that the court had failed to consider negative consequences, including compensation demands from affected businesses, a loss of job opportunities, unemployment, and policy uncertainty that could erode trust in the government and worry foreign investors.
