Swiss Net Zero Wouldn’t Be Serious Drag on Growth, Study Shows

Switzerland can aim to become a carbon-free economy without harming growth, according to a study published by the energy ministry.

The analysis presented Thursday assumes the country will reach net-zero emissions by 2050. In their main scenario, the researchers of Ecoplan predict gross domestic product will grow by 33% until 2050, an annual rate of slightly above 1%, with employment rising as well.

If climate efforts stagnate on current levels, the Swiss economy will expand between 0.04% and 0.07% more per year, according to the study, while the net-zero emissions target is missed.
