Swiss Government Could Extend VOC Tax Exemption

GENEVA—The Swiss government plans to propose an extension of a tax exemption for companies that reduce their emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) to less than half the legal limit. The tax of 3 Swiss francs ($3.30) per kilogram of emissions applies to more than 20 industrial sectors, including chemicals, electronics, and metallurgy, as well as other businesses using VOC solvents and fuels. Companies can claim the exemption if they meet the 50 percent threshold.
