Illinois is on the cusp of fully decarbonizing the state’s economy by 2050 under comprehensive energy legislation that state lawmakers—under intense lobbying pressure—are rushing to finish by Tuesday.

Legislators on Monday unveiled a 980-page energy bill following marathon weekend negotiations. The Illinois Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee is set to hold a hearing on the bill in the afternoon, and votes on the bill and its amendments could come Tuesday, when the legislature meets for a one-day session.
