Supreme Court to Hear Arguments in Texas-New Mexico Water Fight

The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the latest round of a long-running fight over water rights in Texas and New Mexico.

The justices issued an order Monday saying they will set an argument date “in due course” to resolve the states’ most recent dispute over the Pecos River, which runs more than 900 miles from northern New Mexico to western Texas, where it joins the Rio Grande.

University of Maryland law professor Robert Percival, who follows environmental litigation at the Supreme Court, said the court’s interest in the dispute is notable.
