Top Court Wants DOJ Input on Boulder Climate Petition (Correct)

The Supreme Court wants the Department of Justice to weigh in on an oil company petition to examine whether a Boulder, Colo., climate case belongs in federal courts.

Justices asked the Solicitor General in a short order on Monday to file briefs “expressing the views of the United States” on the petition filed by energy giants including Suncor Energy Inc. and Exxon Mobil Corp.

The request for briefs came in the top court’s first round of orders in its new term, and doesn’t specify a date for the Justice Department to submit an opinion.
