Summit Carbon Solutions submitted a new pipeline permit application in South Dakota, more than year after state regulators rejected the company’s earlier proposed route.
- The revised 700-mile route through the state is part of 2,500-mile plan to build a carbon pipeline through five US Midwestern states
- The $8.9 billion pipeline has been pitched as a way to shrink the carbon footprint of corn-based ethanol and potentially other industries
- Pipeline construction is expected to start in early 2026, with operations beginning in 2027, Summit said in a statement on Tuesday
