States Seek to Defend Trump Energy Orders in Youth Climate Suit

A coalition of 19 states and the territory of Guam are asking permission to help defend Trump administration executive orders that aim to bolster fossil fuel production in the latest federal youth climate suit.

Montana, Florida, and Louisiana are among the Republican-led states signing onto the motion filed Tuesday in Montana federal court to intervene as defendants in Lighthiser v. Trump.

The lawsuit was brought in May by 22 young people who say their constitutional rights are violated by President Donald Trump’s executive orders in the federal push, like the first on “Unleashing American Energy.”
