St. Louis Sets Efficiency Rules for New, Existing Buildings (1)

St. Louis has become the third U.S. city to formally enact rules requiring buildings to cut their energy use, as it seeks to limit the biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions.

Under a bill Mayor Lyda Krewson (D) signed Thursday, owners of commercial, multi-family, institutional, and municipal buildings of at least 50,000 square feet will have to meet efficiency standards that land them in at least the top 35% of similar buildings’ performance.
