An oil refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands, previously ordered to pay $700 million to control its pollution, is causing oil to fall on residents and releasing hydrocarbons into the air, according to a complaint filed in federal district court.
A potential class of St. Croix residents allege the refinery, operated by Limetree Bay Ventures LLC, is “showering oil” and subjects downwind residents to vapors, fumes, and odors.
