Solar May See Boost in Puerto Rico Power Grid Overhaul

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers defended its response to the devastation of Puerto Rico’s power grid, saying the federal government was working both to restore electricity and overhaul how power is generated and transmitted on the island.

The government is examining “changing power generation to modern, efficient, renewable type energy sources—and the relocation of energy sources to where people live,” Ryan Fisher, acting assistant secretary of the Army who oversees the Army Corps, told a House Appropriations panel Nov. 29.
