Sierra Club Drops LNG Export Approval Suit Against Energy Agency

The Sierra Club dropped one of its cases challenging the Energy Department’s approval of an increase in the amount of liquefied natural gas a facility is allowed to export.

Tuesday’s move came after the authorization “expired when Magnolia LNG failed to commence exports by Nov. 30, 2023, as required,” Sierra Club staff attorney Louisa Eberle said in a statement. “Because the authorization is no longer valid, our challenge to that authorization is moot and Magnolia LNG cannot export any LNG to non–free trade agreement countries,” she said.
