Shell Loses Bid to End Oil Terminal Environmental Safety Lawsuit

Shell Oil Co. must face the bulk of claims brought by an environmental group alleging the oil company doesn’t protect its New Haven, Conn., fuel terminals from risks of climate change, a federal judge ruled, declining to throw out the suit for a lack of legal standing.

Conservation Law Foundation Inc. sued Shell and several units in 2021, claiming they violated the Clean Water Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act by operating the fuel storage terminals without proper protections for flooding and extreme weather.
