Congressional lawmakers are urging Democratic leadership in the House and Senate for $6 billion to support the private bus industry in the pending budget reconciliation package.

The low-tech bus sector—best known for companies like Greyhound and Megabus—doesn’t get the same attention as high-speed rail or electric vehicles when policymakers talk about decarbonizing transportation. But unlike those technologies, the U.S.’ private bus industry is already fully mature, and buses emit far less carbon than many other modes of transportation.
