Schumer Backs New Train Safety Rules Following Ohio Crash (1)

Legislation that would impose new safety rules for US trains hauling hazardous materials like the ones involved in the Feb. 3 Norfolk Southern Corp. derailment in Ohio has won the backing of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

“I’ll do whatever I can to make sure that happens,” Schumer said Wednesday on the Senate floor. “The fault here lies with the rail companies.”
