Senate Votes to Repeal Biden Gas Water Heater Efficiency Rule

The Senate voted 53-44 to ax Biden administration energy efficiency standards for gas tankless water heaters, marking a win for gas industry lobby groups and Republican lawmakers who argued the rule unlawfully removes condensing water heater options from the market.

H.J.Res. 20 will scrap a December 2024 Energy rule directing manufacturers to comply with new energy conservation standards for gas-fired instantaneous water heaters, a type of consumer water heater. The 1975 Energy Policy and Conservation Act authorizes the department to regulate efficiency standards for multiple consumer products.
