A US Senate committee voted Wednesday to bar the import of Russian uranium, a day after a House subcommittee approved a similar measure.
- The Reducing Russian Uranium Imports Act, approved by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, would prohibit the importation of Russian uranium 90 days after enactment, while allowing waivers until 2028 to sustain the continued operation of existing nuclear reactors
- The bill was attached as an amendment to legislation that would create $3.5 billion fund for creation of US supply of domestic enriched uranium
