Senate Panel Deadlocks on EPA’s Enforcement, Superfund Nominees

A Senate panel deadlocked Thursday along party lines on two of the Biden administration’s picks for top EPA jobs, including the agency’s enforcement chief.

The nominations could still move forward if Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) files a discharge motion to relieve the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee from its duty to recommend nominations to the full Senate for a vote.

However, two Republican senators are sustaining their holds on all agency nominees, meaning the full Senate can’t quickly confirm either nominee without at least a lengthy voting process.
