Senators from California and New York are introducing two bills Tuesday that would create a $10 billion fund to investigate and clean up so-called “forever chemical” contamination at and near military installations across the country.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has also signed on as cosponsor to one of the pieces of legislation introduced by Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), who is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The measures include provisions to remediate drinking water supplies contaminated by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
