Seattle Targets Heating Oil, Embraces Green New Deal Plans (1)

The mayor of Seattle is proposing to tax and phase out home heating oil, while the City Council is poised to pass a resolution dubbed the “Green New Deal for Seattle.”

Mayor Jenny Durkan’s bill would impose a 23.6 cents per gallon tax on home heating oil retailers with the revenue going for rebates and grants for homeowners to switch to electric heat pumps as well as help with utility bills for low-income households.
