Scope of Alleged PFAS Illnesses Prompts Order for New Studies

Scientific studies about a broader range of illnesses attributed to PFAS are needed to decide how to address many of the personal injury cases in national litigation about a specialized firefighting foam, a federal court said on Tuesday.

More than 20,000 cases have been filed in In Re Aqueous Film-Forming Foams Products Liability Litigation MDL 2873 with most making personal injury claims, said Judge Richard Mark Gergel with the US District Court for the District of South Carolina, which oversees the multidistrict litigation (MDL). Aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF) contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
