The San Diego city council approved a potable reuse program along with approximately $50 million in supporting contracts in a bid to resolve a wastewater compliance problem by increasing local water supplies.
“Pure Water” will cost approximately $3 billion and, by 2035, generate 83 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated effluent, or about one-third of San Diego’s supply. An intermediate goal of 30 mgd by 2021 also has been established.
